Was harsh straight up and down. Bummer not enough single track for my tastes.
As we are lining up, Towle starts gassin me, and coming to the line Chuck B, from SMBA, SMITH, now boys Chuck is gonna tear your legs off, blah blah, he told me that in the bar last night at happy hour, blah blah - ( never even went to the bar) be careful with this guy he's nasty. SO you know I had to go way hard out of the gate, which I did and then just as promptly I blew at the top of the climb, like way beyond red zone, sort of like I better concentrate or I may fall over and puke. I made it up and up and up and watched my class blow by and then started getting caught by junior sports, all the SMBA kids and some of those Y-riders that was almost sad for me but they somehow passed energy to me and I trudged on.
The single track on top is fun, just not enough of it. Did I mention in the past that fire roads suck? Well if not: THEY SUCK.
Made it down and around and coming through the start finish, Dave blows me up again, Chuck this and Chuck that and on and on, I can hear you man all the way up the hill, he killed it (good) for our sponsors and made me go that much faster, so big ups to Dave Towle, you are the man.
I did have a bit of fun as Sam paced me up the hill and teased me with a bottle and GU, he would hand it over then speed up so that I would have to up the tempo, man that hurt soo bad, soo bad. It worked and I did the second lap a touch faster than the first. Ocky rode past me like he was shot out of a gun and I gotta say that I am proud of him, the kid has come along way in very short period of time, he just needs some patience and it will hit him like a bolt of thunder and when it does look out, he is going to be flying even faster and higher. Props to: Hawkes the bike was perfect, Adam and Gary from Maxxis, thanks for the cheers, Chris - I needed the GU and man you came through in spades, Kate and SMBA for a place to lay my weary head and to all the riders from all over that I was able to meet and ride with, my heartfelt thanks!
